Yes the bible is crystal clear that Hell is a literal place. It is a place of torment with darkness, fire, heat and turmoil.
Yes Hell is eternal. Frankly I wish it wasn't but the bible says it is a place where the worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.
Hell was created for Satan and the fallen angels but it also serves as a place for everyone who rejects God.
Anyone who does not accept Jesus Christ as their Creator, Lord and Savior will go to hell. Any person who thinks he can work his way to heaven by doing enough good works will go to hell. If you try to get to heaven by any other god or any other way than the way Jesus said; you will go to hell. BTW no one can make this decision for you. The catholic belief of infant baptism is one of Satan's best cons. Your parents cannot make this decision for you, it is your decision alone which if you really think about it, that's how it should be. Do you want someone else deciding your fate for all eternity?
PS The catholic idea of purgatory (people can pray someone into heaven is another con.
It's so simple, in fact, people who are in hell (hades) now are tormented because they now realize how easy and simple it would have been to be saved.
Jesus uses an illustration in Matthew 5:29-30 to show you how bad Hell really is.
29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Jesus is making a point that Hell is so bad it would be worth cutting limbs and losing your sight to avoid it. Fortunately for us salvation is a free gift from God if we will believe in Jesus and ask Him for forgiveness.
